It’s Free Buddy
June 5, 2009
The universal rule in business: goods and services always come at a price—until now. Quite simple, really: stuff can be acquired at no cost to the individual consumer. While it is true that there are significant costs and limitless effort which go into producing and distributing free stuff, it is not uncommon to find goods today that do not trouble the consumers with payments.
A lot of free stuff includes magazines, both online and print. Listings and sometimes even relevant articles usually grace this kind of free item, and while indeed it asks for nothing but the interest of the individual consumer, it is by no means an act of goodwill. Free magazines get their revenue from advertisers and others who wish to put up signs on the publication—everyone wins.
This giant interconnection of computers called the Internet (which, obviously you are taking advantage of now) gave way to the rise of buddy messengers. A buddy messenger is a piece of software that allows the user to send an instant message to another user. Think of it as sending an SMS message on your computer, real-time. The Internet also gave way to significant demand for free ringtones and other various free downloads, all operating with the same method of gaining income: advertising in one way or the other.
The consumer, you, need only know this: it’s free, buddy. Free for you.
